UPDATE: Fire reported along Highway 97 South a controlled burn

UPDATE:

Plenty of smoke and ash is carrying across Highway 97 at the scene of a fire located south of Kersley, which has been confirmed to be a controlled burn.

Firefighters are on the scene, after receiving a call around 11 a.m. reporting a wildfire in the area.

High winds of up to 80 kilometres/hour are expected in the Quesnel area today.

The Kersley Volunteer Fire Department is responding to a wildfire located at or around 6905 Highway 97 South, between Kersley and Alexandria. The call came in just after 11 a.m.
