ORIGINAL STORY:

An incident in which a local man was injured at work is currently being investigated by WorkSafe BC.

The Observer received information that a worker was seen lying on the ground at Parallel 55, a manufacturing plant located at the corner of Highway 97 and Quesnel-Hixon Road, as an ambulance attended the scene on the afternoon of Friday Nov. 2.

John Spiers, operations manager for Parallel Welding & Fabrication, confirmed a Parallel Welding employee was hurt on the job Friday.

The employee was part of a team contracted out to Parallel 55, according to Richard Glazier, owner of East Fraser Fiber Co., which runs Parallel 55. The team was constructing a building at the Two Mile Flat site.

Spiers said the incident is under investigation by WorkSafe BC, and he’s therefore unable to provide detail about the incident, but did confirm the employee is currently recovering in hospital in Prince George.

“The worker, although he’s fairly badly hurt, they are taking really good care of him,” said Spiers. “He is making a recovery.”

The Observer has reached out to WorkSafe BC for more information. At post time, a representative had not responded.
