Albert passed away peacefully on August 26, 2010 in (Dunrovin Lodge) Quesnel BC, with family by his side.

Al was born in Clairmont Alberta on July 28, 1924. He was an only child.

He grew up on his parent’s farm in the Clairmont area. Around the age of 12 years, he moved to the Lower Mainland and worked on the family’s fox farm. When Al was around 20 years old, he left the Lower Mainland to try his luck at commercial fishing along the coast of BC. After a “brief career”, Al returned to the Lower Mainland and worked as a truck operator hauling lumber.

During this time he met Inez Marie Eberg. They married on April 24, 1948. The newlyweds made their way to Quesnel, where Al began a job driving truck for his uncle. In 1948, Al formed his own business Al Harris Ltd, hauling lumber and gravel throughout the Cariboo. He operated this business for approximately 40 years.

Al and Inez had three children, all born in Quesnel, Divona, Philip and Rodney. Sadly, in 1977, Inez passed away.

Al united with a friend of many years, Edna McCauley. The families were very pleased when Al and Edna were married in 1988.

Al was very involved in the Quesnel community. He helped to establish the local curling and baseball clubs. Not only did Al sponsor these clubs, he was also an active participant. He was a member of the Quesnel Snowmobile Club and Horseshoe Club. He excelled in every sport he played, thus becoming “Sportsman of the Year” in Quesnel in 1966. His other enjoyments in life were ocean fishing, 4-wheeling, hunting, watching hockey, and of course his family. He was a gentleman and very caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Al leaves behind his wife Edna - Quesnel, daughter Divona Summer - Fort St. John, son Philip (Marcia) Harris - Quesnel, son Rodney - Quesnel.

Edna’s children: Pat Hartley - Nazko, Carol (David) Law - Quesnel, Bob (Brenda) McCauley - Quesnel.

Grandchildren: Chad (April) Bordeleau, Cory (Crystal) Bordeleau, Colin (Erin) Bordeleau - all of Fort St. John. Erin (Ian) Ferster - Langdon Alberta, Graeme Harris - Fort McMurray Alberta, Gary (Alana) Hartley - Quesnel, Maureen (David) Harrington - Euchiniko Lake, Julie Law - Red Deer Alberta, Melanie Law - London England, Amy Law - Quesnel, Shalynn McCauley - Quesnel.

Great Grandchildren: Cameron and Cassie Ferster, Evan Bordeleau, Alivia Bordeleau, Violet Bordeleau.

We will miss Al’s smile, witty sayings and wonderful sense of humour.

The family would like to thank Julie Boesem for the loving care towards Al, and the staff at Dunrovin for making Al’s last days comfortable.

As per Al’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. He said, “I would prefer that a hall be rented so that those of my relatives and friends who attend may tell a few jokes and have some fun.”

The family would like to invite all friends to a “Celebration of Life” gathering on September 11, 2010 at 4 pm at the Bouchie Lake Hall, 1975 Centennial Rd, Quesnel.

In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations may be made to the Hospice House, Quesnel.
