A celebration of life was held for Art Gilbert on Sunday, January 28, 2018. Art was born in Vancouver in 1932 and moved with his family to Wells, BC in 1934. He lived there until graduation in 1950 and moved to Quesnel. He had many different jobs over the years mostly connected with accounting.

He married Donna Edkins in 1953. They had two daughters, Lindsay and Allison. He bought the McLean St property in 1951. Over the next few years he built and completed their home in which they lived for the next 62 years. In 1958 he bought property on Dragon Lake and built a large cabin where the family spent their summers for many years.

Art joined the Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department in 1965 and was an active member until 1993 attaining the position of Captain. He continued as an associate member until his passing.

Art enjoyed many activities; skiing, curling, dancing, playing bridge and crib. He loved coin collecting. He was very interested in astronomy and the space program. His favourite activity was connecting with people and in his last few months he spent many afternoons sitting on the bench by the Royal Bank and chatting with people (some of whom he knew!)

Art is survived by his wife Donna, daughters Lindsay (Brent) and Allison, grandsons Mitchell (Aika) and Duncan (Brianna), sister Joan (Ellis), many nephews, nieces, and friends.

He was predeceased by parents Jack and Edna, brother George, sister Louise (Wee), nephew Griff and good friend Gary.

Art's eulogy can be read on Clayton's website. Those wishing to make a donation in Art's memory can do so to: Better At Home (cheque made to NCAFPS) or the Quesnel and District Hospice Palliative Care Association.

The family would like to thank all those who prepared meals, visited, sent food, flowers, cards and helped in so many ways.
