Barbara Muriel Edith Garner

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Barbara Muriel Edith Garner (nee Stuart-Scholefield), on December 13, 2006, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease at the home.

Born on November 12, 1917 in Battle, Sussex, England; to the late Oscar & Edith Stuart-Scholefield, she grew up on the Gulf Islands. On March 8th, 1948 she was united in marriage with Albert Arthur Garner in Nanaimo, BC.

Barbara is survived by: daughters’ Sally Doney & Vivian Garner; son Stuart & his wife, Leanna Garner; eight grandchildren: Valerie (Darrell); Trina; & Darren (Brenda) Yates; Nicoli (Jessica); Alex; Colin & Cody Garner; & Kenneth (Lori) Wawryk; three great-grandsons: Tyler Yates; Leon & Zach Wawryk; one great-granddaughter Michelle Garner; and five sisters: Mary Cook, Sheila (Ernie) Sampson, Rene Sampson, Hazel (Ernie) Kriese, & Betty (Gene) Carpentier & two brothers: Stuart & Bob Scholefield. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brother Duke Scholefield and granddaughter Karen Yates.

A memorial service for Barbara Garner was held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 6th 2007 at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1720 Bowen Road, Nanaimo, BC.
