A heart of gold stopped beating on August 24, 2010. Betty Barnes passed away peacefully in Quesnel, surrounded by her family, after a brief battle with cancer. Betty moved to Quesnel with her family in 1962 and lived in the communities of Moose Heights, Kersley and Johnston subdivision.

She was an active member with the Kersley Mud Hen’s where she spent many years making and giving away beautiful ceramic pieces. She was also very active at the Seniors’ Centre where she participated and volunteered in many events. Betty was predeceased by her parents and her husband Jim Barnes. She is survived by daughters; Leona Botkin (Rick Zawada), Wanda (Dennis) Zacharias, son; Randy Barnes (Kathy Wallace), grandchildren; Matthew (Jacquie) Zacharias, Erin (Taylor) Hoffman, and Helena Parker, as well as 3 sisters and 3 brothers. A funeral service was held on August 28, 2010 at the Quesnel Seniors’ Centre. Internment followed at the Quesnel Municipal Cemetery. Donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the Quesnel & District Senior Society or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the many relatives, friends and neighbours for the flowers, cards, food trays, love and support. Also thank you to Dr. Sear for his compassionate care to Mom and to Luc LaPrairie for his support and guidance in our time of sorrow. Mom was a wonderful lady. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
