Betty was born in Port Alberni to homesteading parents who had immigrated from Yugoslavia & Germany. Her father logged their street in Port Alberni for future homes. As a young woman her adventurous spirit was nurtured when she joined her father & brother hunting. She remained an avid outdoors woman to became a devoted naturalist & accomplished horse woman. She was a woman with endurance & drive that sustained her as she worked at the plywood plant in Port Alberni to earn her tuition. She met my father Andy at UBC in the agricultural program. She worked in the office at Patchett sawmill & continued to utilize her bookkeeping $ accounting skills working as a legal secretary & volunteering for several horse clubs.
