Billie Hirst passed away peacefully at his home, ‘The Victorian at McKenzie’ in Victoria, B.C. on December 31, 2007.

Billie was cremated.

He was born December 6, 1921 in Yorkshire, England. He spent his young years in the district of Golcar, Muddersfield, Yorkshire, then joined the R.A.F. in 1940 and was sent to Canada and to India before being demobbed at the end of the war.

Billie married Joyce Boud of Pinner, Middlesex. They lived in the Quesnel area from 1956 to 2003.

Billie was Secretary Treasurer of the Quesnel School Board from 1957 to the end of 2003.

He joined the Kinsman Club on arrival in Canada and at the age of 40 joined the Rotary Club where he made many friends and did alot for the community.

He was editor of the Rotary Club’s newsletter and was a recipient of the Paul Harris award in recognition of his devoted service to the club. He was also a member of Little Theatre and sat on the Hospital Board.

He was very happy in Quesnel and it was only a change in health which made it necessary to retire to Victoria.

Billie is survived by his wife Joyce and three daughters; Sally Margaret (Bob) Cuthberton and her daughter Miranda; Jacqueline Mary (Bryan) Allan, her son Ben and daughter Dana; Elizabeth Ann (Brian) Melu and son James.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Albert and Donald.
