David was born in Toronto Ontario to Hugo and Barbara Hake. He was adopted along with his sister, by Stan and Tillie Ball. In 1951, the family moved to Quesnel, BC. He attended Quesnel View, Riverview Elementary school, and Cariboo High School. When his sons moved to Fort St. John, David moved to be closer to them.

David was an accomplished musician and artist. Music brought joy to his life and he played drums for many bands. One highlight was jamming with the Beach Boys in California!

David served in the Canadian Air Force. He enjoyed fishing and outdoor living. He was always surrounded by animals.

His last years were spent in Nanaimo, close to his sister. He passed away peacefully at Nanaimo General hospital with family by his side.

He is survived by four sons Daniel (Tanya), Duane (Robin), Devon, and Dale (Stacy); his sisters Linda (Elo) Nicolaisen, Nanaimo, and Carol-Anne Grodecki, Reno NV; and his brother Hugo Hake, Yerington NV; his aunt, Leona Thompson, Lake Cowichan; nieces & nephew, Kandie(Mike) Doyle, Calgary, Connie (Pat) Leary, Quesnel, Corey (Debbie) Nicolaisen, Calgary, Kristal (Erin) Holman, Nanaimo, Kellie (John) Hawkins, Nanaimo, Debbie Grodecki, San Jose CA; and their children as well as grandchildren & great grandchildren.

David was pre-deceased by his birth parents, adopted parents, and step parents.

A celebration of his life will be held by his sons in private. In lieu of flowers or donations, remember David by helping a stranger, comforting a hurting person, or visiting the lonely.
