Derek John Galbraith was born on September 23, 1988 in Quesnel BC and was tragically taken from his loving family and friends on June 24, 2008 in Biggar, Saskatchewan while doing what he loved best, working as a Heavy Duty Mechanic.

Derek attended Rayleigh Elementary School and Norkam Senior Secondary School in Kamloops, graduating in the pre-apprentice program for Heavy Duty Mechanics in 2006. He was in the second year of his heavy-duty mechanics apprenticeship with Greg’s Contracting of Red Deer, Alberta.

Derek loved motorbiking, camping, hunting, fishing, skiing, and boarding, just to mention a few. The most important part of Derek’s life was to be with his family for every family function and to be surrounded by his friends. Derek was always anticipating his days off or holidays so that he could come home to see his family and friends.

He is survived by his parents, John and Candace Galbraith and his brother Brent Galbraith of Kamloops. Also by his great grandmothers Belauh Prenevost of Osoyoos and Ellen Ponting of Mission; his grandparents Faye and Frank Galbraith of Keremeos, and Lena and George Hasbon of Osoyoos. He is also survived by numerous aunties, uncles and cousins. Derek will also be remembered by so many of his very close friends.

Derek we love you so much and you will be in our hearts forever and forever missed.

Love Mom, Dad and Brent…

The funeral service took place on Monday, June 30, 2008 in the Kamloops Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Mary Widmer officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Derek Galbraith Trust Fund can be made at CIBC, 304 Victoria Street, for a bursary to the CTC Heavy Duty Mechanics Program at TRU.
