Dorothy Mary Cappan

Dorothy Mary Cappan passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 22, 2005 at G.R. Baker Memorial Hospital at the age of 81. Dorothy fought a long courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis and in later years, asthma. Dorothy was born in the County of Kent, England on

August 9, 1924.

Dorothy married Jules “Cappy” Cappan, a Canadian Soldier, in Birmingham, England on February 9, 1946 and came to Canada on the Lady Rodney in spring of the same year, residing in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In the fall of 1948 Dorothy moved to Quesnel, where she resided until her death.

During Dorothy’s years in Quesnel she was very community minded, joining many non-profit organizations such as Canadian Arthritis Society, Life Member of the Quesnel Figure Skating Club, Canadian Figure Skating Judge for 25 years, Palliative Care, Associate Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Quesnel Quilters Guild just to name a few.

For a number of years Dorothy worked for the City of Quesnel, managing the outdoor swimming pool in LeBourdais Park, and the ticket office in the Civic Arena. She spent many hours gardening, rug hooking, knitting and quilting. She always had several projects on the go.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Jules, November 14, 2004. She is survived by her daughter Margaret (Ed), sons James (Brenda), granddaughters Julie (Dave), Tracy, Sandra and Jaimie, grandson Mayson, great grandsons Brayden and Brody, brother Jim (Edna), sister-in-law Margaret and several nephews and nieces.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Jerry McFetridge for his care and compassion, thank you also to the nursing staff at G.R. Baker, Home Support nurses and care workers. To Dorothy’s many friends whose visits and kind words will never be forgotten. Thank you so much.
