Ed (Cubby) Ryan

May 23, 2004

Ed (Cubby) Ryan passed away Saturday, May 23rd, after a short battle with cancer.

Cubby was not new to battles, having fought for Canada in World War II. He was a member of the Royal Westminister Regiment — 5th Armoured Brigade, which saw extensive action in Italy in 1944.

Born in 1917, he was raised as part of a large family in Chilliwack. Growing up on a chicken farm, during the Great Depression, Cubby learned to fully appreciate the responsibilities of providing for a large family. After the war, he moved to Quesnel, and spent the remainder of his life in the Cariboo.

Ed is survived by his sisters Betty, Corrine and Frances, sons Ted, George and Jim, daughter Betty, daughters-in-law Janin and Marie, son-in-law Curt, and by seven grandchildren. Cubby was pre-deceased by his wife Flora two years ago.

He will be remembered for his wisdom, cheery disposition, spartan lifestyle, and his knack for making do. He will be missed by those who were fortunate enough to make his acquaintance.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
