Elmer Cody of Alexandria, B.C.

passed away peacefully at his

home on August 31, 2008. His

daughters and two of his sons

were with him at the time. Elmer

was diagnosed with lung cancer in

early July of this year.

Services for Elmer were held at St.

Ann’s Catholic Church with Father

Dale Normandeau offi ciating.

Six of Elmer’s grandchildren were

pallbearers; Keith Prestone, Rick

Lyall, Dawn Cody, Shalene Logan,

Corinne Cody and Jake Cody.

Elmer was interred in the Quesnel

Municipal Cemetery right next

to his wife, Irma, who had

predeceased him in March, 2000.

Elmer was born in the family

home on September 27, 1918 near

Pilger, Saskatchewan. He was the

oldest of seven children.

Elmer married in 1941 and he

and his wife moved to Manitoba

where they farmed for fi ve years

before moving into the little town

of Ste. Rose du Lac. In 1951

Elmer moved his family to B.C.

where he worked in the sawmill

business with his brothers-in-law.

In 1952 the family moved to the

Alexandria area where he has lived

ever since.

After retiring from his job as a

foreman with Weirs Sawmill Elmer

devoted his time to his wife, family

and his farm. He dearly loved to

garden and his garden was his

pride and joy.

On the long weekend in August

Elmer’s family gathered at the

Cody Homestead in Alexandria to

celebrate his 90th year. Although

he was in failing health a smile

rarely left his face the whole

weekend.

Elmer is survived by his two

sisters; Dorothy (Frank) Graf,

Sister Ethel, and two brothers;

Jerome and Pat, his children;

Roxienne (Joel) Prestone, Charlene

(Dennis) Lyall, Terry (Penny),

Bryan (Beatrice), Rick (Maureen)

and Reg.

Also left to mourn Elmer’s

passing are his and Irma’s

20 grandchildren, 14 great

grandchildren and two great great

grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife,

Irma, a daughter, Patricia, a son,

Rod, and two brothers, Harold

and Robert.

Elmer will long be remembered

for his loyalty to family, friends

and his church, for his humour, his

honesty and diligent work ethic.

We, his children, would like to

thank all our family and friends

who were with us at this sad time.
