Elspeth 'Elsie' McLeod

September 1, 2004

McLeod-Elspeth “Elsie” (nee Zschiedrich) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elsie on September 1st, 2004 at the age of 88. Her final days were spent at home while courageously battling cancer. Elsie was born on a snowy cold winter day December 16, 1915 at Dragon Lake close to Quesnel B.C. Elsie’s parents Charles & Francis were pioneers that settled in the area in 1908 by horse and wagon. She was the youngest of 5 children. Elsie was a true pioneer in so many ways. Including the time when she was 10, she rode her horse 30 miles through the snow to see her sister and her new baby niece for Christmas. Elsie worked in the Quesnel Hotel for 10 years and later moved to Vancouver in 1942 with her new husband Jack McLeod. Later Elsie and Jack started their own business in Cloverdale, which was McLeod’s Meats Ltd. Twenty years later they moved to Armstrong and created McLeod’s By-Products Ltd. Elsie and Jack retired in 1978 to Campbell River and Mesa, Arizona and enjoyed traveling. They finally settled in South Surrey in 1984. She was predeceased by her son Leonard Charles in 1967 and her husband Jack McLeod in 1997. She will be greatly missed by her son Larry, grandchildren Janice (Don), Tracy (Mark) and David and 5 great-grandchildren Krysten, Samanthia, Taryn, Mathew and Mitchell. Thank you to all of the Peace Arch Hospital Palliative Home Care Staff for their wonderful assistance. A very special thanks to Vivian Tesar for her loyalty and dedication in helping Elsie’s son Larry take care of Elsie in the final stages of her illness. Elsie will be laid to rest in Vernon, close to her son Leonard. A memorial to celebrate her life will follow at a later date.
