Francis May Macalister (nee Bell) passed away on July 27, 2008 at Dunrovin Park Lodge in Quesnel, B.C.

A family gathering was held on August 2, 2008 at the home of Harold and Evelyn Gillin with tributes by her grandchildren to honour her memory.

Francis was cremated and her cremains are with her husband and son on a hill above Macalister farm.

Francis was born on February 19, 1914 in Winnipeg, Man. to parents Sidney and Maggie Bell. She had one brother Charlie and four sisters, Mary, Margaret, Lois and Evelyn. The family moved from the farm in Sask. at a young age to a farm in Cowichan and later to Victoria where her father was a gardener.

Francis married Joseph Macalister on October 30, 1940.

Francis worked at Spencer’s Dept. Store in Victoria, then married and raised her family on a farm at Macalister. She belonged to the Women’s Institute in Alexandria and the OAPO in Quesnel and she retired to Dragon Lake.

She is survived by her children Evelyn (Harold) Gillin, Linda (Bob) Macham, Kathryn (Wes) Byrd, sisters Lois, Evelyn, 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Joe, son Bill, brother Charlie, sisters Mary and Margaret.

In lieu of flowers donations in Francis’ memory may be made to the Dunrovin Activity Fund or a charity of your choice.
