Genevieve Gook passed away peacefully on June 7th, 2010 in the GR Baker Memorial Hospital, with her family lovingly at her side.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Peter Gook, and children Jon (Sheila) Long, David (Lesley) Gook, Donald (Lillian) Gook, Susan (Scott McNiff) Gook of Quesnel, Bob Gook of Ashcroft, Fred Gook of Vancouver, Michael (Janus) Gook of Mesquite Nevada, Kathy Gook of Quesnel & Phoenix, and Son-in-law Allen Haworth of Lumby BC.

She was predeceased by parents Joe & Sarah Long, brother Tom Long, daughter Rita Gook, and grandchild Jonathon Gook.

Genevieve was born, September 28, 1919, at the Vancouver General Hospital, to Sarah & Joe Long, the first of two children. She grew up with her brother, Tom, in the small town of Sayward, Vancouver Island. After graduating from St Anne’s boarding school in Victoria, Genevieve joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, and worked during the war years. After the war, Genevieve worked as a dental hygienist in Vancouver, where one day a recently discharged air force member, Peter Gook, chose her place of employment (out of many in the Georgia Medical Building). She met the man she spent the rest of her life with. They married, and moved to Quesnel, where they eventually settled in the house on the hill, at Dragon Lake. Genevieve was an extremely hard worker, raising 10 children, and spending many hours volunteering as a member of the CWL. After the children had flown the coop, Genevieve studied and received her real estate license working for many years with her husband at Peter R Gook Real Estate and Insurance office. She loved her retirement traveling in their 5th wheel with best friends Arnie & Vi Jeffs, and enjoying the sun in Hawaii and Phoenix Arizona, becoming an avid golfer.

Many grandchildren came along including Matthew (Selena) Gook, Bradley Gook, Zachary (Tammy) Froese, Angela McNiff, Jennifer (Shawn) Gemmell, of Quesnel, Stephen Haworth of Vernon, Ami Haworth of Rossland, Joel Gook of Vancouver, Linden Gook of Likely, Pollymander Cotgrave of Vancouver Island, Jeremy (Ada) Gook of Lethbridge, and Maxwell Gook of New Zealand.

Great Grandchildren include Travis Gook, and Nickolas Froese of Quesnel, Hailey Marie Haworth of Vernon, Olivia Gook, Porter Gook, and Walker Gook of Lethbridge.

Genevieve had a full, wonderful life, and she was the lifeline of the family, keeping everyone close together. Her love for her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren were evident with her house FULL of photos of them all, and her many knitting projects, producing sweaters, mittens & toques.

Many thanks to the hard working and caring nurses & doctors at GR Baker Memorial Hospital.
