It is with deep sadness that the family of Gladys (Bunny) Lawlor announces that after an acute internal problem she passed away on October 29, 2007 in Kelowna with her daughters by her side. A memorial service was held November 9, officiated by Michael Maiers at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Bunny was born October 13, 1923 in Calgary, Alberta. She attended King George School, but due to her father becoming ill she had to quit early to help support her family members.
Bunny enlisted in the Army, August 1942 where she worked as an office clerk. There she met her husband Gordon who was also in the army. They were married February 16, 1946 at St. James Parish, London, England.
Thereafter they lived in Campbell River, where Gordon was employed a short time as a gravel truck driver and Bunny as a secretary in an electrical store.
They moved to Quesnel in 1949 to a logging camp where Gordon worked for A.L. Patchett. Times were hard, living in a one room cabin when the winter temperatures dipped to 54 below -F but Bunny said she treasured those days.
Moving closer into Quesnel, they built a house on Knickerbocker Road where they lived for several years. They then moved to Kohanko Road where they raised their girls and enjoyed a small hobby farm. Bunny was a city girl but tried to adapt to the country life. She enjoyed the animals and came up with some unique names for them. Meanwhile Bunny worked in a real estate office and then in a clothing store.
In her later years she enjoyed living closer to town in an apartment where she met many friends. Bunny was often noticed for how she was always impeccably dressed - but what her family and friends noticed more importantly was her inner beauty. Her qualities endeared many to her, her kindness, generosity and friendliness. She was known too for her wit and being young at heart, she always had to try new things. She loved learning new games, crib though was her favorite, which she was very good at.
Little children always brought a smile to her face and she talked to any she met. In fact almost anywhere Bunny went, she tried to be cheery and her good sense of humor appealed to many. She found joy in using her talents for cooking, baking, knitting to give to others; which will always be remembered and treasured especially by her family. But what she liked to share the most was her positive spiritual hope for the future which helped her to lead a full and purposeful life.
Not to be left out is her love of her little dog Hannah - who brought extra joy to Bunny as a constant companion.
Bunny will be forever loved and missed by her daughters Lianne Lawlor (Don Borkowski), Williams Lake; Cheryl (Doug) Lansdell, Quesnel; her 3 grandchildren Jillian Wade, Tyson and Taylor Lansdell; her sister Betty Bosworth (Calgary, Alta.); brother Richard Shaw (Vancouver Island.
Bunny was predeceased by her two sons Gerald Richard and Robert Gordon Lawlor.
The family would like to thank all those who sent flowers, food, cards, phone calls and to all who came to mom’s memorial. Special thanks to the nurses long hours of care at G.R. Baker Hospital. Thanks to Richard at Clayton’s Funeral Chapel for all his help at this sad time.
