Gretta Bracken

April 28, 2007

Gretta was born July 25, 1920 on the Higdon ranch, south of Quesnel, to David and Amy Higdon. She was the youngest of 5 children in the family which had come to the Quesnel area as homesteaders in 1909. Gretta was raised on the farm, often riding to school on horseback, and grew to womanhood during the difficult times of the 1930’s and 1940’s. She met her husband Bill in Vancouver, and they were married in Quesnel in 1949. After giving birth to her 2 sons, Bob and Donald, Gretta & Bill settled into Johnston Subdivision to raise their family. In 1973, they moved to their new house at Dragon Lake which remained Gretta’s home until the present. During the ‘70’s and ‘80’s, Bill & Gretta traveled and enjoyed their home, garden and expanding family. After Bill passed away in 1999, Gretta remained very active in the Eastern Star, as well as with bridge, travel, and her many friends. Gretta is survived by her sons and their wives, Bob & Donna and Donald & Theresa, and grandchildren Lee-Ann, Caitlin, Sean, Tyson, Robert and Leah. She was a member of a pioneering family and a lifelong resident of Quesnel, a terrific wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Gretta was a live wire who cherished her family, her friends & her community - she will be missed by all. Gretta’s family would like to sincerely thank all of the people who supported and enriched her life in Quesnel. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Eastern Star Cancer Society would be appreciated.
