Herb passed away with his family at his side on August 29, 2009 in Penticton. He was born March 29, 1916 in Milestone, Saskatchewan and later moved to Minnesota to finish his schooling. He joined the Air Force in 1942 and a year later married his sweetheart Betty (McLellan). After the war they lived in Wells, B.C. where, in 1954 he became the postmaster, a position he held until his retirement in 1980, when they moved to Penticton. He also served as Justice of the Peace, District Deputy Grand Master of the Masonic District, was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 60 years. He was also an avid curler and New York Yankee fan. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty; daughter Linda (John) Griffin; son Ross (Lynn) Hadfield; grandchildren Steve (Nicki) Griffin, Alayne (Tyler) Mittelsteadt, Scott Hadfield and Mike Hadfield; great grandchildren Benjamin and Meghan Griffin; nieces and nephews. Herb enjoyed being around his family and friends. He was kind, generous and always a gentleman. “Poopsie” will be missed by all who knew him. Memorial Service to be held on Saturday, September 5 at 11:00 at Penticton Funeral Chapel, 501 Winnipeg Street. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the MS Society.
