Ivy Olson

October 22, 2004

Ivy was born in March, England to John and Francis Goaks. She moved to Canada with her family at the age of 3. She was raised in Vancouver. At a young age, Ivy married a Peace River farmer. After the loss of her first husband, Jim Miles, she moved to Ashcroft and worked in a tomato factory where she met and married Carl Olson. They moved to Wells, then in 1942 to Quesnel. Ivy had four children.

She was devoted to the ladies auxiliary at the Royal Canadian Legion, where she earned her 50 year service pin. She also enjoyed gardening and feeding her ducks and geese at her pond near Baker Creek on Pinnacles Road.

Ivy is dearly missed by all her family and friends.

Ivy is survived by her daughter June (Byran) Olsen, son Hughie (Betty Lou) Olson, granddaughters Kathy (Sam) Oppen, Klover Olsen, Sheila (Dwaine) Olson Bax, great grandchildren Bryan, Samantha, Brittany, Meagan and Alyssa, niece Cathy (Randy) Walker.

Ivy was predeceased by her husbands Jim in the 1930’s, Carl in 1969, sons Richard in 1979, Calvin in 1983 and sister Dorothy in 2002.

A memorial service was held at Clayton’s Funeral Home on October 26, 2004. A tea reception followed at the Royal Canadian Legion.

Many thanks to Reverend Canon Trev Whiting for a great service. To cousin Cathy Walker for attending the service from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the Legion ladies for the great tea. Also, to Dunrovin and Baker Lodge for looking after mom/grandma since she was placed in their care.

From the Olson families.
