James Keith Yorston

We are very sad to announce the death of James Keith Yorston, age 91, on January 3, 2007.

He was married to the love of his life, Patricia Yorston (nee Grimmond) for 60 years until her death in 2000. He will be greatly missed by all of his family including his daughter Joan Tolnai and her husband Steve and her children Stephen Tolnai, his wife Jane, Lisa Wood,husband Mike, and David Tolnai and by his son Donald Yorston and his wife Kathleen, and his children Gabriel Yorston, partner Darcy, and Kevin Yorston, wife Amanda and by his daughter Janet Yorston and her husband Tony Long, and her children Gilah McHugh, Emma McHugh, Matthew Long, Jessica Donini Long, husband David Donini and Sarah Long. He has many great grandchildren who will also remember him with great love, including Dawson, jade, Bella, Nina, Emilia and Osa.

He was predeceased by his brothers John and Donald Yorston and his brothers in law, Robert Hirschfield and Earl Sidsworth. He is survived by his sisters Margaret Sidsworth, Kathleen Enemark and her husband John, and Eileen Hirschfield and by his sisters in law Carrilie Yorston and Kath Yorston.

Keith was a Second World War Army veteran. He will be remembered by many friends in Quesnel where he started Quesnel Machinery and worked on many community projects including the building of the arena and the hospital. He will also be remembered by many friends and colleagues in Prince George where he lived for most of his life and founded QM Industries. He was a businessman and innovator. He served as a Director on the Board of BCIT and started an apprenticeship programme at his business that launched many young men into the trades. He moved to Kamloops for the last 7 years and will be remembered by his close friend Mar Taylor and many other friends.

The memorial service was held in the Schoening Funeral Chapel on Sunday, January 7, 2007 at 1:00 pm.
