Abbottsford B.C – John Henry (Hank) Stoll passed away peacefully October 26, 2006 at the MSA Hospital.
Born May 7, 1929 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan Hank lived there until 1939 when the family moved to the Okanagan. He attended school in Winfield and Rutland and in the early 1950s moved to Quesnel where he found employment with Gardner’s Building Supply. After a few years of working for Gardner’s and in the sawmill, Hank began his career with the Post Office.
It was during the early years in Quesnel that Hank met and married Mary Burch and they began their family.
Hank’s career with the Post Office led the family to 100 Mile House and eventually to Armstrong where he was Postmaster for ten years. He retired from the Post Office in 1990 and was active with the Armstrong seniors group. He was also a volunteer driver with the local public health department and helped many people to get to their doctor’s appointments in the Armstrong and Vernon area. During the years in Quesnel Hank was a Cub Scout Leader and a member of the Elks Club.
His interests included bowling and carpet bowling, he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping and the outdoors. He was a member of a few different square dancing groups over the years and also enjoyed ballroom dancing. Hank was a great family man and spent many hours around his home caring for the garden and fruit trees.
Hank is survived by his brother Fred (Janet) of Vernon; his children Gordon (Melanie) of Toronto, David (Joann) of Abbottsford, Kathy of Lloydminster; grandchildren Jennifer, Christopher, Lisa, John and Nathaniel; great-granddaughter Hannah; nieces and nephews Kay (Don), Michael (Onna), Andrea, Kevin (Erin), Chris (Lynda).
A small celebration of life was held on October 29, 2006 at the home of David and Joann Stoll in Abbottsford.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
