John was born on August 10, 1939 in Caliento, Manitoba.
He died on June 30, 2004, at Vancouver General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
John married Gert Cote in 1963, and they made their home in Quesnel for over 40 years where he was a welder at Cariboo Pulp & Paper.
John was truly one of a kind. A devoted husband and father, brother, uncle, cousin and loyal friend.
We will miss his sense of humor, loving heart and compassionate manner.
He was never too busy to lend a hand to his children, family and friends when in need.
John is lovingly remembered by his wife Gertrude Sportak, his children Marty (Alison) Sportak, Colleen (Bill) Coleman, and Randy (Michelle) Sportak, grandchildren Kenton, Cassandra, Faith, Jenna, Joey and Ryan.
There will be a celebration of life service held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church at
11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, with Father Malcolm officiating. A tea will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request donations be made to the Liver Foundation in John’s name.
