John Yates

June 28, 2007

John Yates, of Wells, BC (formerly of Vancouver) passed away peacefully on Thursday June 28th,

2007 at Cowichan Lodge in Duncan BC. He had been battling a lengthy illness.

Beloved husband, father and friend, John will be grievously missed by wife Neva Hohn of Wells,

brother Simon Yates (Madeline) of Laval Quebec, son and daughter Daniel and Sarah Yates of

Vancouver and step-son Abe Hohn (Lisa Cherneff) of Saltspring Island.

John was born in London England in 1936 and moved to Vancouver Canada in 1975. with his then-wife Sue where they settled in Marpole.

Many people owe their knowledge and appreciation of the English language to John, as he taught English as Second Language at Douglas/Kwantlen College from 1975 to 1996.

John was never more at home than with a good book, and never more happy than hiking, skiing, kayaking and swimming in the native wilds of BC. John spent the last 10 years living in Wells BC where he enjoyed his retirement in the snowy winters and Barkervillian summers of the Cariboo. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, as he was a gentle, generous and kindly man whose sense of humour and large-spiritedness continuously surprised and delighted everyone whose life he touched.
