In loving memory ~
One year has passed since we said goodbye to our beloved — Mum, Grandma, Great-Grandma, and friend. Though time moves forward, her presence still fills our hearts and memories in quiet, powerful ways.
Kathleen was born in Whitworth, Lancashire County, England, in 1929 to William and Lily Barker. As a young girl, she had a spirited energy and loved playing field hockey — a glimpse of the strength and determination that would define her throughout life.
In 1955, she, her husband Denis, and their daughter Lynn made the brave journey across the ocean to begin a new chapter in Canada. Together, they built a life in Quesnel rooted in love, resilience, and hard work. In her younger years, Kathleen worked in a bakery, where her hands and heart were always busy — whether kneading dough or skillfully decorating elegant wedding cakes that became part of cherished celebrations. Kathleen was always impeccably dressed, her hair neatly styled, and her outfits thoughtfully chosen.
Her creativity extended far beyond the bakery. She took great joy in knitting delicate baby outfits and lovingly sewed clothing not only for herself, but also for her children and grandchildren. Every stitch was made with love. She was always interested in hearing about people and their families, greeting everyone with a warm smile and genuinely enjoying her interactions — whether with friends, neighbours, or acquaintances.
Kathleen was also a proud member of the Branch 94 Legion Ladies' Auxiliary for 50 years. Her volunteer work included baking, cooking, and supporting the Poppy Campaign. She was a loving mother to Lynn (Trevor) and Bruce (Debbie), and though she endured the profound loss of her husband Denis and her son Wesley, she carried herself with unwavering grace. Her legacy lives on in her grandchildren — Dawn, Christopher, Chantelle, and Kyra — and four great grand children: Gwaiidion, Mia, Soul, and Reid.
Her love remains with us, just in a different way. As the words so beautifully remind us:
"Don't learn to live without me —
Just learn to live with my love
In a different way."
We carry you with us — the love, stories, stitches, recipes, dresses, and laughter.
One year gone, but forever held in our hearts.
