The family of Lena Elenor Louise Campbell (nee Vogler) regret to announce her passing on March 4th 2010 at the age of 94 at Baker Memorial Hospital. She was the third of four children of Russell and Sadie Vogler. Predeceased by her husband, Alexander (Allie) Campbell, and their son, Leslie, she is survived by her sister, Norma (Vogler) McGuire, her daughter Elsie (Allan) Brigden and son, Allan (LaVerne) Campbell, as well as 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grand-children.

Lena was born on February 15, 1916 in Vancouver and grew up in the Point Grey area of Vancouver. At age 16, in 1931, she and her family moved to Beaver Valley, east of Williams Lake. During the three years that she lived there she met Allie Campbell who owned the adjacent farm. In 1934, her family returned to Vancouver. Allie stayed behind in Beaver Valley until he sold his cattle, then he headed to Vancouver to marry Lena. On November 21, 1934, Allie and Lena were married. A few days later, she and her new husband returned to Beaver Valley where they spent the next 30 years farming and raising their three children. The barn they built is still in use today.

In 1963 they moved to Quesnel and started another farm together. Allie passed away on November 9, 1969. That farm was sold and Lena moved into a trailer on a piece of property near her daughter’s ranch. There she enjoyed 39 summers of cultivating a large flower garden filled with Irises, peonies and many other flowers; she knew the names and origins of every plant and knew how make them bloom their best. In the winter she fed the many birds that came to rest in the trees that surrounded her garden. She enjoyed tracing her family’s history and connections on the internet and through correspondence. In March of 2009, she moved to Fraser Village for a few months before staying with her daughter and son-in-law.

Many thanks to the wonderful nursing staff at Baker hospital; they were very comforting. Thanks also to Dr Buyes for his help at that this difficult time. A celebration of Lena’s life will be held March 15th at 1:00 PM at Clayton Funeral Chapel. Tea will follow interment. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the palliative care.
