Marjorie Anna McNabb (Weaver) passed away June 22, 2009 in McKenney Creek Hospice in Maple Ridge, BC. She is survived by her son, Robert (Peggy) of Vancouver, WA; daughter Karen (Arlene) of Shrewsbury, MA; grandchildren Peter and Caitlin; brother Donald (Margot) of Peace River, AB; sister-in-law Violet Weaver of Peace River, AB, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1972, her sister Marion, and her brothers Jim, Bruce, and Lincoln.

Marj was the second daughter and the third of six children born to Nell and Harry Weaver. Known as “Babe” to her family, she grew up in Peace River and moved to Edmonton in 1944 to attend college. In 1947 she met her future husband, Bill McNabb, and they were married in 1950. Always wanting a family, Robert came into their lives in 1956, and in 1958, Karen was born.

A long-time resident of Quesnel, Marj moved here in 1966 with her husband Bill and their two children. Marj worked part-time and then full-time as a school secretary at Cariboo Jr. High and QJS/QSS. Enjoying her time in the schools, she made the office an efficient, warm, and welcoming place. Marj considered the staff and students an important part of her extended family. She retired after 18 years of dedicated service to the Quesnel School District. In August 2008 Marj moved to Port Coquitlam Hawthorne Assisted Living. She enjoyed life there, making new friends and discovering a renewed independence while still maintaining contact with old friends.

Marj treasured her family and friends. She loved her family and took a great interest in the lives of both her children and grandchildren. She delighted in spending time with friends, enjoying a meal together and sharing a few laughs. Marj will be loved, missed, and forever remembered by those who knew her.

A memorial service was held on June 27 at the St. Andrews United Church. On June 30, Marjorie was laid to rest, as she had wished, next to her parents in Peace River.

Memory is the golden chain,

That binds us all till we meet again.
