Oscar Festerling

It is with great love and sadness that we announce the passing of Oscar Festerling. He passed away peacefully on October 22, 2006 at G.R. Baker Memorial Hospital with his loving wife Norma of 54 years and his family at his side.

Oscar was born in Grand Forks on July 3, 1930 and moved to Quesnel in 1953.

He worked at Weldwood for 35 years before retiring in 1988. He played baseball for many years and then became very involved in minor sports and the community.

He had a great love for family and home. Oscar enjoyed watching all sports, travelling, hunting, fishing, golfing, his garden and his dog Barkley.

Oz touched many in his remarkable and fulfilled life and will be greatly missed by all.

Oscar is survived by his wife Norma, daughter Lesley (Andy), sons Don, Brian (Karen), Doug (Kathy), grandchildren Brendan & Kyle Orr, Jana Wuest (Andre), Garrett, Brett, Dean Festerling, Robyn Jickels (Steve), great grandchild Bradley Jickels, sister Charlotte Onciul (Alfie). He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. Oscar was predeceased by parents Emil and Ida and brother Art.

To honor Oscar’s life, a memorial service was held at Clayton’s Funeral Chapel on October 26, 2006 with Rev. Teri Meyer officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, c/o G.R. Baker Memorial Hospital.
