Raymond Elias (Bud) Kumpula of Quesnel, B.C. passed away at G.R. Baker Memorial Hospital on March 27, 2009.

A Veteran service with Honour Guards will be held on Friday, April 3 at Clayton’s Funeral Home, with Father Mark Mute of the Anglican Church officiating. A tea will follow at the Legion at 12:00 p.m.

Pallbearers are Tyler and Dick Lalande, Dan and Clarke Kumpula, Richard Kumpula and Rob Gallamore. Honourary pallbearers are Kaleigh and Kammara Kumpula, Victoria Kumpula, Melissa Lalande and Whitney and Stephanie Gallamore.

Burial will be at View Cemetery in Washington.

Ray was born in Amboy, Washington on December 12, 1930. He lived on a farm in Amboy where he enjoyed 4-H. He graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1949. Ray was in the Navy for four years during the Korean War. He worked for Ben Thomas Logging and International Paper for 12 years. He married Mary Rae Clarke in 1959. Together with their four children they moved to Quesnel. While living in Quesnel, Ray worked at West Fraser Mills as a grinderman. He retired in 1995. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting and dancing. He will always be remembered for his warm smile, kind heart and generosity.

Ray was predeceased by his parents Eli and Della Kumpula.

He is survived by his former spouse Mary-Rae Kumpula (Quesnel), sisters Maxine Lester (LaCenter), Barbara Hagedorn (Yacolt), brothers Donald Kumpula (Marge) (Amboy), John Kumpula (Lynelle) (Port Angeles), children Clarke Kumpula (Quesnel), Donna (Rob) Gallamore (Agassiz), Patti (Dick) Lalande (Quesnel), Richard (Skeeter) Kumpula (Quesnel), as well as eight grandchildren.
