Reuben (Bay) Hounsell

June 22, 2007

The family of Reuben (Bay) Hounsell regrets to announce the death of their loved one on June 22, 2007.

Reuben was born December 28, 1914 in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan. He spent his younger years in northern Saskatchewan working for others in saw milling, breaking land, building roads and threshing. In 1937 he purchased a quarter section of land south of Shipman.

In 1944 he married Laurabelle Torry and settled on his small farm where they raised their six children, Morris Hounsell, Joan (Shymanski), Karen (King), Gloria (Postnikoff), Lois (Mills) and Kelly Hounsell.

He continued to supplement his farm income working out in winters saw milling, driving school bus and so on. As a municipal councillor, he was an active member in the community and loved curling, usually a family affair with his kids making up the team. In 1972 he was offered a job as a saw filer for West Fraser Mills in Quesnel, He worked there until his retirement.

He was predeceased by his wife Laurabelle in 1982 and married Teena Hawkes in 1986. He was appreciated by all for his good natured personality and his willingness to always help and put others before himself. His good sense of humour, his ability to vividly remember the past and his conversation skills made him an enjoyable person to visit. He will be sadly missed by his wife, his children, six stepchildren, 31 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and his many friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Strovski, Dr. Assiz, the staff at G.R. Baker Hospital, Mike Maier for the memorial talk and all the dear friends who arranged for the tea.
