Shirley Jean Payne passed away peacefully in Port Alberni, BC on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 75 years of age, following a lengthy illness.

She is predeceased by son David and infant son John. Shirley is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Russell; sons James (Olga) and Jeff; 7 grandchildren Melanie, Austin, Jesse, Alicia, Scott, Matthew and Shandra; 13 great grandchildren and one sister Toni White as well as other relatives and friends.

Shirley, along with her husband Russell, ranched in Oregon for a number of years before moving to Quesnel in 1974. Shirley was very active in Quesnel working with the Tourist Association, managing West Park Mall, working at Century 21 Insurance, President of the Chamber of Commerce and even writing for the local newspaper.

In 1983 they moved to Nanaimo where Shirley worked in the insurance field.

In 1999 they moved to Port Alberni after Shirley was diagnosed with Alzheimers.
