It is with sadness we announce the sudden passing of Sonja at her home, her haven during the difficult time of her illness. Her main objective in life was to be independent and her endeavors to face her life challenges was determined and courageous with a tenacity beyond description.

Sonja loved life, she cherished each pet she rescued (and there were many), she touched many lives with her understanding and compassionate support and lived her life as the best person she could be in all she undertook. We are so proud of her and so miss her.

Sonja was born in Prince George, and after completing high school, moved to Quesnel in 1989. She worked at the Pooch Palace as a groomer and kennel attendant, and volunteered at the SPCA and Salvation Army whenever possible. She was fun loving and generous of her time and had many friends. Family was very important to her. Sonja packed a lot of life experiences in her time here – she left us with many moments to remember and cherish. She is now at rest at Tranquility Gardens.

Sonja is survived by her parents, Cornelis and Lillian Steneker

Her Brothers - Daniel and Casey (Janine)

Her Sister - Heidi (Doug)

Her Aunts - Mae (Walter), Coby, Alice

Her Uncle - Gus

Her numerous nieces and nephews

Her pets - Zoe and Charlie

Thank you to all those who were there for her when she needed them, professionally, medically, and just because. Special thanks to Dr. MacDonald, who made it possible for her to maintain her independence as long as possible.

A Celebration of Life event to be planned at a later date.
