October 17, 1927 – August 28, 2016 At 88, 7 weeks from her 89th birthday, Star reunited with her husband Max, giggling and dancing their way through heaven. In life, Star faced her challenges with courage and optimism. Born in Quesnel, BC, Star took turns with her 9 sisters and 2 brothers working in the family general store. She later worked in Vancouver where she met Max. Star soon adjusted to married life in Victoria with her new family and many friends. Ever the consummate homemaker and hostess, Star planned many festive occasions with her delicious cooking often with vegetables and fruits from Max’s garden. With a green thumb for gardening, Star loved to grow bountiful flowers and produce beautiful arrangements. She also enjoyed taking family photos, canning, reading and watching classic movies. Star was blessed to have dear sisters and friends and loved to travel and party with them, especially on her many escapades to Las Vegas and Reno with her gambling gal pals. Always kind, thoughtful and generous, Star went about her way to make everyone feel welcomed and well-fed. Her sharp wit, sense of humour, infectious laugh and sparkling bright eyes will certainly be missed. She surpassed many expectations of living with Parkinson’s Disease. Star was predeceased by her father CD Hoy, mother Lim Foon Hai, husband Lee Maxwell Chew, sisters: Evelyn, Anne, Rose and Irene and brothers: Benny and Jack. She will be dearly missed by her sons: Gregory (Cecille) and Tim; grandsons: Augustin and Kyram; her loving sisters: May, Yvonne, Lona, Marline and Lily and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Above all, she was grateful for the support and cherished memories of her sister Lona, niece Bev and caregiver Lian, whose compassion, love and care enabled Star to shine brightly until her end of life. Star will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew her. A Memorial Service was held at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, Victoria, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Headway Victoria Epilepsy and Parkinson’s Centre or Parkinson Society BC.
