It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my dear Svend Aage Nielsen, Husband, Father and Grandfather. On December 23rd, 2009, at the young age of 81, Svend died peacefully surrounded by the love and care of his adoring (Second) Wife Lorraine (Trudi) , in the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, BC after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease.

He was Born in Gadsjerg, Denmark, on March 8, 1928 and Immigrated to Canada

in 1951. He worked his way across Canada and settled in B.C. at 100 Mile House, not arriving there until 1957.

He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Christine (Prestige), his brother Jens Nielsen and his sister Emma (Nielsen) Sorensen.

Svend is survived by his wife Trudi of Kamloops. They celebrated their 16th anniversary together on September 3rd of this year, at Royal Inland Hospital where he lay ill. Also survived by his daughter Christine (Ron) Graham and two grandsons, Nielsen and Mitchell Graham of Clearwater BC and Step Grandson Kody Graham of Coquitlam BC as well as many nieces and nephews.

Plus those now living in Denmark: Sister, Stinne (Nielsen) Hanson,

Brothers; Christen and Arne Nielsen of Jelling, Denmark as well as many nieces and nephews.

Svend was a very accomplished Musician-Composer and his compositions are currently being played by many musicians throughout the province. He was the Master of many instruments and played them all exceptionally well.

He was a life member of the BC Old Time Fiddlers, Kamloops Branch #12. Svend and Trudi spent all their spare evenings and days, playing for folks, all over British Columbia and any place else they happened to be found. Svend was amazingly unaffected by his talents and intelligence.

Svend was a founding member of the 100 Mile House Flying Club. From there, he became an avid pilot of Light Crafts and built his own airplanes and several gyrocopters. He spent many happy hours flying and attended most of the air shows both US & Canada. He passed his gifts of charm and music on to other members of the Nielsen family, and as well helped other musicians along the way.

Svend worked in the production division (maintenance supervisor), in many mills throughout BC, and would tell you of his journey to Tehran, Iran where he was asked to come and build a sawmill and pulp mill, and to train the local population to work it. He got out just in time to escape the onslaught of a revolution.

We are having a

“MEMORIAL to CELEBRATE SVEND’S LIFE” at 6:30PM on Sunday, April 25th, 2010 at the HERITAGE HOUSE in RIVERSIDE PARK in KAMLOOPS, BC. THIS WAS SVEND’S WISH TO HAVE MUSIC & DANCE.

We wish to thank the Nurses at the Royal Inland Hospital and also the Home Care Nursing Staff and Dr. James Howie for the gentle and kind care taken of our dear Svend. Also thanks go out to the Personal Alternative Funeral Services staff. God bless them one and all.
