Born in Cloverdale B.C., on April 17, 1932. Bill spent his childhood swimming and playing ball. After high school, Bill joined the military in 1952. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces as a leading Aircraft Mechanic during the Cold War in Germany. Later in life, Bill was recognized and presented with a special service medal with NATO Bar.
After the military, Bill moved back to Quesnel B.C. and married his sweetheart, Norma Leonard. Bill started his career with West Coast Energy and soon after their children Ross, JoAnn and Carol were born. In 1975 a promotion took Bill and his family to Fort Nelson, B.C.
Bill volunteered and coached his daughter's baseball team the Sikanni Sluggers. You always knew Bill was near because you could hear his loud booming voice. Bill enjoyed curling and golfing, he participated in numerous bonspiels through the years and was known to throw the odd golf club.
An avid hunter and fisherman, he could catch a fish in a mud puddle and was a good marksman. He proved this by taking many quality animals. Bill harvested his last buck with his son Ross and good friend Mark at the age of 90. Bill enjoyed all the hunts with his son, grandsons and sons-in-law. He was excited to hear that his granddaughters were following in his footsteps also fishing and hunting.
Bill retired from West Coast Energy in 1990 after working on the Vancouver Island/Mainland Natural gas pipeline project. Bill and Norma moved back to Quesnel, settling into retired life. He was always available to help friends and family with projects from carpentry to mending fences.
Bill wanted it to be known that Normie was an amazing woman to put up with him all these years. They were married for 66 years. Bill said laughing to his son-in-law Doug, "Don't write too good of an obituary, because I wasn't that good"
Bill is not gone; he has just gone hunting.
