Broken Promises

Editor:

The Conservatives promised we would have fixed election dates and then broke that promise, so we are now facing another election.

The fourth in seven years.

They started campaigning months ago, releasing American style attack ads even though an election had not been called.

Harper states he wants to get rid of the 27 million taxpayer funded dollar per vote that the political parties receive. His party receives 10.4 million of that yet has not sent it back.

This money keeps smaller parties like Greens, CAP etc going.

His budget throws Canadians breadcrumbs of two billion dollars to spread throughout agencies and programs that are so desperately needed, yet orders sole source 65 fighter jets from one of the largest American defense companies, Lockheed Martin. According to Kevin Page the parliamentary budget officer, these jets will cost Canadians $29.3 billion.

Imagine how many people could be helped with that money?

Harper insisted on giving the largest corporations in Canada a continued tax break that will cost Canadians six billion. Imagine the people that would help out.

Harper has been following the American style tough on crime agenda and has plans for five billion dollars to spend on building more prisons and expanding the existing ones. They refused to release these numbers until they were forced to by parliament.

Last week Harper and his government were found in contempt of parliament!  Now he wants a majority government? Please vote and remember your ABCs – anyone but conservative.

After running in politics for the last 18 years and six federal elections, I have opted out as I no longer believe any of them are representing us. Perhaps I’ll vote NOT – none of the above.
