Letter: Column chock full of ‘dog-whistle innuendo’

Editor,

Another week, and another right-wing rant from columnist Tom Fletcher.

Now he is banging on about terrible unions again. There is no balancing of his weekly columns with alternate points of view other than occasional reader’s letter, so here goes.

His latest tirade is chock full of dog-whistle innuendo intended to rally his troops to over throw this “lefty” B.C. government which has been in power now for what, I’m sure for him, must be an excruciating, one whole year.

Not the least example of which being his odious comment of “hearing” of unfortunate pay-offs to Union Business Agents in exchange for favours of super-seniority. What nonsense. Anyone can find examples of malfeasance in any trade or walk of life but that does not make it a usual occurrence. Like a certain President to the south of us, I guess just hearing of something makes it so.

I submit that the practice of ensuring a fair wage on government projects is not only morally correct but also makes good business sense as well given the obvious spin off effects to the local economies.

So Tom, spare us please your cherry picking of personal memories of your Ayn Rand inspired past and try to consider the whole of a topic before typing. And PNR, perhaps some editorials from other points of view?
