Letter to the editor: Journey to recovery

I would like to share with you my journey into recovery.

Editor:

I would like to share with you my journey into recovery. I am 29 years old and a single mom of two beautiful children. Ten months ago, I was living a life of chaos and destruction. I would lie, cheat, steal and sell my body and soul for drugs. I was horrified by life, trying to escape by all means possible. I had lost everyone and everything that I loved.

March 19, my mother and I drove to the WelcomeHome Addiction Recovery program in Vancouver. This was it. Life or death, I had a choice to make. It was one of the hardest decisions I ever had to make. WelcomeHome is helping me change my life. I am learning all the tools I need to become the best person I can be for myself, for my family and for my community.

I am learning to be a leader, a mother, a sister, a friend and so much more. If you know of anyone struggling who needs help and support getting their life back, please  let them know there is another way. WelcomeHome saved my life and we might be able to help someone else do the same.
