Letter to the editor: Such a warm welcoming

Open letter to mayor and council:

A brief detail of myself, I live in Australia and am 61-years-old. I am involved in umpiring baseball as a hobby and have been involved in my community for more than 30 years.

Why am I sending you an email?

I recently decided to give my wife a holiday for her 60th birthday. This holiday included a trip on the Rocky Mountaineer, which stopped in Quesnel.

I want to mention the lovely gesture of your young girl guides (I am not sure of the actual group name), these lovely young girls waited until the train arrived, which was delayed until about 8 p.m., and offered a gift of a couple of cookies.

This I thought was a very pleasing gesture from a community group who did not know me or my wife or  the people who travelled to your community.

They were joined by other young ladies who must have been entrants in a Miss Quesnel competition. Also there was the local vintage car club.

As a traveller from the other side of the world, this was a simple gesture of openness and warmth in an welcoming to your community. I made a mental note that I would send a very heart–felt thank you to you to convey to these young members of a wonderful community.

I hope you take the time to pass on this message to all of the people concerned.

Thanks,

David Cowdroy
