Victoria police officers bag up clothing Monday morning at the scene of a drive-by shooting in front of the Strathcona Hotel on Douglas Street at 1 a.m. Monday.

A drive-by shooting sent one man to hospital early this morning in the 900-block of Douglas St.

Multiple shots rang out around 1 a.m. in front of the Strathcona Hotel in the direction of the Clubhouse bar.

Safety cones now mark the shell casings that litter the street, where hours earlier police noticed the suspect vehicle near the scene but were unable to prevent it from fleeing.

The vehicle was found abandoned around 1:20 a.m. at Shelbourne and Ryan streets, along with a firearm believed to be connected to the shooting.

The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries, said Const. Mike Russell.

A woman "associated to the crime" was taken into custody, but the suspect remains at large, he said.

The surrounding area will be closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic for most of the day.

Witnesses are asked to call the VicPD non-emergency line at 250-995-7654 or anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
