Time for action

It’s really easy to sit back and say “it’s out of our hands.”

It’s even easier, to form an opinion based on half-truths.

Unfortunately nothing easy is ever worthwhile. And in the case of the residents along the Cottonwood, nothing seems to have been straight-forward, easy or productive.

Let’s hope that changes – and soon.

Three homes have since been bulldozed due to high water levels and up until Wednesday many more were on evacuation alert.

Now we’ve heard from many “sorry, you built on a flood plane. Too bad, so sad.”

Others feel government should step in and help home owners out.

It begs to be pointed out these residents asked, on more than one occasion and at the own expense for permission to save their homes.

It was denied.

Or rather, it was stalled out due to assessments, loop-holes, hoops and general bureaucratic BS.

Now understandably when dealing with crown waterways there are steps and protocol to follow, but surely it didn’t need to come to this.

But this is generally the case with most government. They hold a meeting to set a meeting, then schedule a conference call to discuss the meeting, after which they meet to compile the suggestions from both meetings and the conference call.

It is then decided to set another meeting for clarification purposes.

Is it any wonder many have lost faith in the system?

Enough is enough.

What these people need is action, not a he said/she said three-month trilogy of red tape.

That’s part of the reason they’re in their current situations.

Be honest, be succinct, be efficient. Actions speak louder than words.
