The Quesnel Kangaroos will be hosting the 2023 Coy Cup in the last week of March at the West Fraser Centre.
BC Hockey made the official announcement on Tuesday, June 28.
“The Quesnel Kangaroos Hockey Club, our dedicated fans, our sponsors and the City of Quesnel wish to thank the BC Hockey Board of Directors for selecting our organization to host the prestigious Coy Cup,” said Kangaroos team president Tyler Coleman in a news release.
“Quesnel takes pride in the opportunity to host and participate in major sporting events.”
The local men’s AA hockey team was originally slated to host the 2020 Coy Cup, which was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last year, the Dawson Creek Canucks defeated the Terrace River Kings in the 2022 Coy Cup in a best-of-three series held in Terrace, BC Hockey noted. In 2023, there will be a return to the traditional four-team round-robin format, including a semifinal and a championship game.

“We’re pretty excited about it,” said Quesnel Kangaroos captain Alessio Tomassetti. “It’s a great opportunity for us to host and win it at home.”
According to Coleman, the Quesnel Kangaroos have a long storied history with the Coy Cup having won the championship 11 times, starting back in the 1965-1966 season.
“We hope to make this year one for the story books and a tournament to remember,” he said.
The Coy Cup was donated to BC Hockey by Colonel Coy of the 50th “Gordon Highlanders” Regiment of Victoria and was first awarded in the 1922-1923 season to Enderby.
“If we put in the effort, I think the community is going to like what we do, and I think they’re going to come out and help us as much as possible,” said Quesnel Kangaroos head coach Harley Gilks, noting the need for volunteers.
More information, including ticket packages, will be announced in the future.
