Quesnel boxers will once again take to the ring in front of a (hopefully) raucous crowd on Saturday, April 30.
The 2 Rivers Boxing Club will be hosting Rumble 29, a boxing event with 12 fights on the card.
Wally Doern is the head coach at 2 Rivers, and is putting together the matchups. He hopes to bring in boxers from Prince George, Vancouver, Abbotsford, Kamloops and Chilliwack for fights.
Doern said recruiting fighters has been “up and down,” but expects a full card of fights. Doern went to his notebook scribbled with notes and potential matchups to confirm the fighters which are coming out.
“I’ve got an old style way of doing stuff, but it still works,” he said.
This is only the second ‘Rumble’ the club has hosted since the COVID-19 pandemic. Rumble 28 was a BC Bronze Gloves event which took place in November of 2021.

Due to COVID-19 rules, attendance was restricted, with mask rules in place.
“It’ll be a full house,” Doern said of Rumble 29.
“There’s been so little going on in the past two years, so something like this is a good evening’s entertainment.”
All fights will be contested under amateur rules. Each bout will be three rounds, with both combatants wearing head-gear. Doern expects 80 per cent of the fights to be youth fights.
“(Spectators can expect) a lot of excitement,” Doern said.
“Quesnel is a small town, so you’ll know somebody on the card, and you might know quite a few on the card. When the bell rings its full intensity to win, but when the final bell rings, you’ll also see very good sportsmanship.”
