Some of the province’s best biathlon athletes will be congregating in Quesnel this weekend (Jan. 19-20) for the B.C Cup Biathlon.

The tournament, which is one of five such cups held annually by Biathlon B.C., will take place at the Cariboo Ski Touring Club’s Hallis Lake facilities.

Club publicity director, Ron Watteyne, says there are 82 participants expected for the race which will combine cross country skiing and target shooting.

It will be the largest biathlon race hosted by the club.

Teams from Whistler, Vancouver, Vancouver Island, Kelowna, Vernon, Smithers, Burns Lake, Vanderhoof and a large contingent from Prince George have signed up.

Races are set to begin at 11:00 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

Spectators are advised to stay on the left hand side of the trail out past the equipment shed and onto Pancake Plats and be aware of racers coming down the hill at that junction.
