The Kersley horse club just wrapped its 2013 Barrels and Poles Buckle series.

There were six competitions in total and riders had to ride in four of the six events in order to qualify.

Each event started at 6:30 p.m. at Rick Loomis’s house in Kersley, 2801 Otter road.

Of the approximately 40 riders competing, riders ranged from seven years old all the way up to 70 plus years old.

Carleigh King was the fastest around the barrel in the 1D open category on the back of Voodoo. Bobby Twan came in second on Alfred, with Nicole Heppner taking third riding Sweety.

In 2D, Launi Stowell took the top spot on Blackjack. Chelsea Brears was milliseconds behind on Shady.

Debbie Roch was the fastest rider in 3D, riding Stormy. Brianne Lemieux followed behind in second on Lilly.

Dennis Gunn took first in 4D on the back of Snip, followed by Melinda Neufield.

Savannah Watson was the fastest in the youth division, taking first in the 1D. Sarah Mac was close behind in second on Wheels.

Emma Langevin took first in 3D on Kit.

Taylor Brears took the top spot in 4D on Dodge.

For the pee wees, it was Kira Stowell taking the top spot in 1D and Gabrielle Fouty taking the top spot in 4D.

In pole bending, Lori McKenzie swept around the course the fastest, taking first in 1D on the back of Joker. Lane Shields took second on Indy and Chelsea Brears rounded out the top three for the 1D riding Flint.

Debbie Roch took the top spot in 2D on Stormy.

In 3D, Launi Stowell took first riding Blackjack, followed by Sarah Mack in second.

In 4D, Darla Cork and Rafter took first. Dennis Gunn took second riding Snip and Brianne Lemieux took third on Lilly.

There were buckle sponsors for first place in each division, for each group, except for the peewees, which was only a 1D buckle.

Second place was a cool down sheet and third place a leather halter.

Lori McKenzie and Chelsea Brears would like to thank the following people for all their help at each one of the jackpots: Rick Loomis, for the use of his arena, for opening his place to all the barrel racers and pole benders and for keeping the arena ground nice and harrowing at the jackpots; Melissa Sword; Darlene Davis; Dianne Erdman; Wendy Braaten; Randelle Langevin; and Kathy McKenzie for being at almost every event and helping to make thing run smoothly.
