Quesnel’s sponsor league championship has been claimed by the Child Development Centre (CDC).
The team, skipped by Justin Nillson, won the B-side of the league’s championship bracket, then won two consecutive games against A-side winners Quesnel Scaffolding Service to win the championship.
The team also includes third Dean Rubisch, second Jenny Rubisch and lead Dave Needham.
Quesnel Curling Centre manager Dave Plant said the decisive game, played on Wednesday, March 16, was an entertaining affair which CDC won 10-6.
After three ends, it looked like Quesnel Scaffolding had the championship all but locked up, with a 5-1 lead. Just two ends later, the CDC team had taken a 6-5 lead. Nillson’s squad managed to score two with the hammer in the fourth end, setting up a big fifth end.
“The steal of three in the fifth was a killer,” Plant said.
After Quesnel Scaffolding tied the game at 6, another three point end, this time with the hammer, gave CDC a dominating 9-6 lead heading into the final end.

It wasn’t a comfortable finish for the the CDC team, as Quesnel Scaffolding had chance to take the game to extra ends with their final rock.
“It was a real tough double, but they had a chance to make a shot, and extremely difficult shot, but it was there, at least I thought it was,” Plant said.
Instead the attempt jammed, giving CDC a steal of one, and the 10-6 victory.
The CDC team sent two players to the Curl BC provincial mixed championships. Nillson and Dave Needham competed at the event from March 11-13.
The Quesnel curling season will come to an end this weekend, with the St. Patrick’s Day mixed bonspiel. After the tournament finishes, the compressors will be turned off, and the ice removed in anticipation of the B.C. indoor archery provincials, which will be held in Quesnel starting on April 15.
