Cold saddles don’t deter serious riders

It may be winter, with snow covering most of Alex Fraser Park, but with the indoor arena, rodeo doesn't need to stop and they haven't.

The ropers are still at it, competing in the Winter Saddle Series through to April.

Last Saturday, the park was filled with the trucks and horse trailers of ropers and riders intent on getting themselves to the top.

There was a total of 69 teams competing in the #11 event.

First place went to Ryan MacNaughton and John Hancock, paying $311 each. Tim Terepocki and Carey Isnardy took second, for $245 each. Third went to Gary Nicholson and Ray Jasper for $188 each. Chad Evenson and Glen Brown took fourth, nabbing $132 each. Fifth went to Evenson and Jason Beier for $66 each.

The series also featured a #9 event, in which 86 teams participated.

Jody Coe and John Hancock captured first with its $386 purse. Second went to Christine Jones and Evenson for $304 each. Coe took a second stab at it with Dustin Spiers netting $234 each and third place. Fourth went to Craig Kohorst and Darin Jones, for which they took $164 each. Nicholson and Clint Cripps managed fourth, for $82 each.

Twelve teams competed in the #6 event.

First want to BJ Isnardy and Rayell Bremner. along with $124. Ellie Manderson and Cripps took second, for $82 each.

The Winter Saddle Series continues next month, Feb. 16-17.
