Dust & Smoke

Plenty of both were on hand during the Quesnel motocross as riders raced through the hot days.

Quesnel Dirt Riders Assoc. hosted BCMAs rounds five and six this weekend. The weather played in our favour for the first time this weekend allowing racers from all over the province to race on the newly improved track as well as many local residents coming out to challenge their skills at racing.

From beginner's to national pro racers, everyone was impressed and didn't hesitate to express their opinions on what a great weekend Quesnel hosted.

"The racing is going well. The new section turned out really well," local racer Jordy Davis said.

Local riders from Quesnel managed to keep a lot of the trophies in their home town showing off their local talent.

Spencer O'Flynn raced in the 7 – 11-year-olds in the 85cc Class, taking first place on Saturday and Sunday. Dayne Cutrell also took home a second place trophy in that class for both days while, Jacob Nestel finished in sixth.

Brothers Haiden and Austin Watson both took home hardware, with Austin taking a second and third place in 85cc (12 – 16 year-old).  A lot of local riders competed in the Jr. B Class against Haiden Watson, who took home first place trophies both days. Jordon Brears finished in third place both days. Local riders Stuart Courtney, Ashton Love and Eric Redekop also competed in the Jr. B Class.

Number 82, Colton Shepherd, had a great start in School Boy on Saturday morning, taking a first place finish in his first moto, but didn't finish as well in his second moto when he went down in front of another rider causing Shepherd to get run over and suffer some minor injuries and damage to his bike, resulting in Shepherd having to pull off the track.

With some rest and repairs to the bike, Shepherd headed out Sunday to compete once again, but ended quickly on his first lap. Battling for first place, suddenly the rider in front crashed, taking Shepherd down with him, mangling the two bikes and riders together, sending Shepherd to the hospital and finishing his racing for the weekend. A severe sprain to his hand and bruising was fortunately all that happened in that crash.

Two first place trophies also stayed in town for number 671, Jackson Nickolet in the Super Mini Class. Nickolet recovered quickly after going down hard during the race, needing assistance walking after a terrible crash, but went on to complete the day with great success.

First and second place trophies were won by number 109, Jordy Davis in Intermediate MX3 over the weekend. He held off many competitors fighting for the title and raced as well in Intermediate MX2. Davis finished fifth on Saturday and moved up a position on Sunday to finish the weekend in fourth.

Skill and speed were the advantage for number 150 Brad Dunn this weekend, racing in the Vet Masters and Plus 40 Class against national pro riders. Brad earned a second and third place trophy on Saturday.

Racers hope to continue bringing trophies home to Quesnel as they head up to Terrace for Rounds seven and eight next weekend May 11 – 12.
