FORESTRY HOCKEY LEAGUE: Bears equal serentiy, GM blows valve but wins

The contest between the two undefeated teams appeared to be heading Serenity’s way before the Bears used a bit of smoke and mirrors to eke out a 4-4 tie. Serenity had built up a comfortable 3-1 halftime lead thanks to a power play deflection by George (Shrinks) Ryan, a hard fought goal by Dale (One-legged bandit) Bubela and a buzzer beater by Bobby (On the Spot)Merta.

The Bears only first-half tally came thanks to Troy (Fozzie) McMillan who rifled a close-in chance where Mom keeps the peanut butter thanks to a nifty pass from Mike (Gummy) Enemark who had escaped from his goalie cage for the contest.

After lucky bounces were converted by Brody (Boo Boo) Neighbour for Bears and Dave (Chainsaw) McCulloch for Serenity made the score 4-2, Serenity went on their second power play.

The anaemic looking effort got even worse when two silver foxes decided to settle old scores in front of the Bear cage which caught the attention of the lone referee.

Meanwhile 180 feet away the Serenity goal keeper shot the loose puck directly off Boo Boos shin pad which ricocheted into his vacant net.

The usual “delayed penalty rule” was over-ruled by the “puck is in the net rule” to whittle the Bear deficit in half which Fozzie quickly eliminated with a beautiful end-to-end-to-end rush which had the Bears bouncing off the boards and the Builders not looking as serene.

The other contest saw Blue Collar get a little hot under the collar as Fraser River hung on to the 4-3 victory.

The TSN turning point was when mild-mannered Shane (The Champ) Thon blew a first-half valve to earn three minor penalties and the early shower which left his squad with only one spare for the remainder of the contest.

This was all GM needed to cruze to victory as Shane (Super Nova) Baker and Seth (El Camino) Phillips each scored a goal and and collected an assist with Scott (Firebird) Fearless burning the rubber disc for the winning tally.

Skating miles for Blue Collar was Todd (The Tiger) Gryschuk with a goal and an assist and (Rocket) Rob Belanger with a pair of beauties.
