FORESTRY HOCKEY LEAGUE: White blanks Green, Red stumps Black

With the play-offs looming, White took another step in the right direction as they outworked the Green group for Peter “The Wolf” Andrewsè first shut-out of the season, 3-0.

With FHL shut-outs coming along as often as blue moons it should be no surprise that this is “The Wolf’s” first howler since Jan. 24, 2002.

What made the event even more special were several tape to tape passes he and his defensemen gave to startled Green attackers who were subsequently thwarted by some unlucky bounces and a variety of K-Tel patty-stacker moves by Andrews.

Leading the way for White in the broken record category was Dale “Big Dog” Bubela who scored twice and added an assist with his first tally a highlight reel roof daddy from in close that proved to be the winner.

Also scoring for White was Brody “Long Legs” Neighbour who is now tied for the league lead with 31.

In the battle for the regular season crown, which like the President’s Trophy in the big leagues is to be avoided at almost all cost, Red squeezed out a 4-3 victory over Black which means next week’s final games are worth showing up for!

As has been the case for most of the season, Red rode the broad shoulders of Richard “The Lionhearted” Lindstrom to victory.

He played his no-nonsense defensive stalwart part, kept his lip zipped and dished out helpers on a pair of goals.

Benefactors from the Red side were Kevin “Cougar” Morris with a goal and a helper of his own as Ian “Heartbreaker” Hannah extended his lead in the “Flash Fenton” race with two more points.

Replying for Black with three unassisted mesh rippler’s were Bobby “Orr” Keen, Eric “Lindros” Bodman and Lee “Stempniak” Naeth who moved into a tie with Brody “Long Legs” for the “Wizard” Izzard goal scoring title.

In the goal tender category, the only way Mike “The Magician” Enemark won’t set a new all-time record for best goals against average is if he gives up 16 goals in his final game, which is almost as likely as a blizzard on St. Patty’s day.
